I enjoyed a career in sustainability education before giving it up to write in 2012, and now write largely about landscape for magazines like BBC Countryfile.
I began writing as Julie Bromilow, then as Julie Bromilow Nicklen after getting married, before alighting on Brominicks in 2014.
I’m a Welsh learner – keen to communicate, but not proficient enough to write in Welsh.
My first book, The Edge of Cymru; A Journey, was published by Seren in November 2022.
Julie yn arfer mwynhau gweithio yn addysg cynaliadwy, ond gadawodd ei i ddod awdures yn 2012.
Rwan, mae hi’n ysgrifennu am tirwedd ac yn cerdded am cylchgronau fel BBC Countryfile
Dechreuodd hi yn ysgrifennu fel Julie Bromilow, wedyn fel Julie Bromilow Nicklen ar ol gael ei briodi, ac yn olaf fel Julie Brominicks yn 2014.
Mae Julie yn ddysgwr Cymraeg awyddus – ond wrth gwrs, dydy hi ddim yn gallu ysgrifennu yn nghymraeg.
Bydd fy’n llyfr cyntaf ‘The Edge of Cymru; A Journey’ yn wedi cael ei gyhoeddi gan Seren, Mis Tachwedd, 2022.
Dear Julie, congratulations on your Literature Wales bursary. It prompts me to ask if you have a publisher lined up for your book about Wales? If you don’t I’d be pleased to have a conversation with you about it. I hope you’ve heard of Seren (one of our authors won the Costa Prize for poetry earlier this year); you can find out more about us at our website: http://www.serenbooks.com. Hope to hear from you, Mick Felton
Thank you Mick, lovely to hear from you. I’ll drop you an email.
Julie!!
Really neat to see you kept your smiles and happy go lucky way. Your Welsh adventure is so neat.
You gave me great welsh girl names and I used 2 of them.
They have unique welsh names for Alaskan girls.
Congrats on your books.
Lesley!!!! I was thinking of you recently – I was telling my husband Rob about your iddderdderol (no idea how to spell it) cake. I couldn’t remember your married name. How are you and your family? Are you still in Alaska? What are you up to?
I had forgotten about the iditarod cake! 🙂
I live in Alaska in a small home that has a mountain towering over it..blocks out the ball of sun from November to February. My husband and I have 7 children and numerous animals to share the small home with.
I stay home trying to keep everything in order.
In alot of ways your pictures of Wales look like parts of Alaska. Minus the bears 🙂
Wow – 7 children! That’s amazing! I can’t remember the Welsh names I suggested – what were they? Your home sounds really lovely. We also don’t get sun between November and February, but due to small green hills rather than a huge mountain. We don’t have bears, but we do get attacked by midges every June. It’s really nice to be in touch again. I would still love to come to Alaska one day – but it definitely won’t be any time soon!
Rhiannon and Llewelyn. (Rhiannon passed away due to a heart defect in 1998.)
Welcome to Alaska 🙂
My kids want me to take them over to the UK sometime.
will be a few years…
I don’t do facebook or other social media but would like to keep in touch via email, text or snail mail. 🙂
Hi Lesley that would be great – my email address is juliebromilow@hotmail.com xxx
I love your blog, I too have lived in a caravan Off-Grid on the Somerset Levels, surrounded by wildlife. You might find it amusing, although I haven’t yet got round to blogging the caravan bit…..www.normalforglastonbury.uk
Thanks Vicki! Your blog is very beautifully presented and made me chuckle!
Shwd mae Julie? I hope you are well ans safe at the moment. I work for a Welsh PR company on a few campaigns that might be able to result in collaboration. One is a free welsh translation service / or proof reading if you have progressed 🙂 would you mind dropping me a line please? Diolch, Lydia
Hi Julie., have just come across your article about the pinemartens etc, “Letting the light in” in the CAT newsletter and love your lyrical, evocative writing. where can I read more?? Disappointed that we only get tasters of the articles for BBC Countryfile. Do you have nay plans to compile the articles into a book or are they all copyright to the BBC now? When is your book about walking around Wales out? I’d like to read more of your work! Best wishes Liz
Dear Liz, thank you so much for such wonderful feedback, it’s lovely to hear from you. I’m afraid my book The Edge of Cymru is still too long so I can’t promise a publication date yet. It’s taking ages but I’m enjoying hacking it down to size. Meanwhile BBC Countryfile Magazine own the copyright for everything I write for them, hence the little snippets only! Sorry about that. Thanks for getting in touch!
Well hello there Julie -long time and all that – how weird (#goodweird) that I should stumble here today. Hope all is well with you – impressive portfolio these days! I have a new book out this autumn (2021) – do get in touch via http://www.viewsfromthebikeshed.com or email me direct
Hello Julia,
It would be good to meet you, I manage the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley AONB. As well as Denbighshire’s Ranger Team. I have enjoyed your podcast on St Melagell and your writings in Countryfile on much of the area we manage.
Maybe there are some new writing opportunities I can share with you on projects in the pipeline.
Dear Howard, sorry for the delay, I’ve been away – and thank you!
